I just have to say....

While I know there are many and varied opinions on the recent events (ie election day) that have taken place in our country, I just have to say that I am so pleased with the results. Take a moment to consider, that no matter who you voted for, our children will never remember a time when there was a racial barrier to the US presidency. How exciting and wonderful for them. Just think. Yesterday a 109 year-old woman, whose father was a slave, was able to cast a vote for Obama...that's incredible.
It was a great feeling to take the kids with us to vote. I love having them be a part of the process. They proudly marched around with their stickers on all day. (After Davie got over his brief dissapointment that we were going to VOTE not BOAT, poor kid.)
I know so many people who are cynical about the voting process, and trust me, I can be that way too. Politics gives us so much to be cynical about. However, I truly believe that the more people who vote, the more power we will have to change our country and the electoral process as well. So don't give up and keep voting :) It's important enough to drag three kids to wait in long lines (yeah, that important.)
I have high hopes for our new President Elect, and I know that some of those will be dissapointed, but I'm all about the optimisim right now. So, congratulations President Obama, and congratulations USA!

Yes, I can't help but be optimistic, too. I thought McCain's speech was so respectful of President-Elect Obama and I was a little embarrassed that people boo-ed when McCain said Obama's name--shouldn't we all follow McCain's example and show such respect for the nation's choice? Like I said, I think things are going to work out if we just remain as engaged in the process as people were in this last election.

I completely agree with you Liz. McCain gave a great concession speech. I hope everyone can feel or at least act as magnanimous as him.
