Williamsburg, Virginia

Dan had a week of and so we took off on a roadtrip to Williamsburg, VA. We had a great time and even got to see my cousin Josh and his wife, Sloan. There was so much to see, that I am sure we missed a lot. The highlights included, restored historic Williamsburg, the College of William and Mary, Jamestown, Yorktown, and lots and lots of wonderful historical sights...both Revolutionary War Era as well as Civil War. On the way down we listened to a CD of the book 1776 that got us all prepped to learn more. Here is Davie loving a gun-making demonstration. Kids these days are not easily impressed :)
I take that back...they are easily impressed. The highlight for them was the bus we would take to and from the parking lot.
We put Grace in the stocks and at times wished we could leave her and Davie there while we checked things out, but the darn things wouldn't lock. So much for authenticity!
Here is Dan the pack horse. The real horse and carriage rides came at an astronomical cost and so Daddy made a good substitute.
Here is Grace by a cannon in Jamestown. Jamestown turned out to be really fascinating. Our guide was working on the archeological digs at the time they discovered almost everything they know about Jamestown (including...I kid you not...over a million artifacts.) He was incredibly enthusiastic and so it was neat to learn from him.

One of the highlights for the kids was the swimming pool they got to return to each afternoon. Living in Hawaii really paid off. They are both little fish. Grace almost swam the length of the pool with no help. David would just jump in regardless of who was there to rescue him from drowning. Water adjustment...check! Swimming lessons needed...stat!

We also visited Atlantic City, NJ on this little adventure. As this post is so long, I will add more about that in a few days.
