911 We have an emergency...

So yet another adventure at the Brady household. This morning, after I had taken Grace to school, I went into the basement to use the bathroom. Well, on our basement door there is a lock on the top and the bottom. Apparently, Davie locked the door while I was down there, effectively locking me into the basement. Crap. So, luckily we have bilco doors. I get outside and go around to both of our doors. Both are locked. Double crap. I am stuck with no keys and no phone and a baby alone in the house. I ran around to four neighbors houses before I found one at home. I called Dan and, of course, he is in surgery and so he can't answer. I left him a message and then tried to decide what to do. My neighbor told me to call 911. Feeling silly I went ahead and dialed. They told me to wait outside and they would send the firemen. I went back to the house and talked to Davie through the door. He thought we were playing an elaborate game of peek-a-boo, so he was loving it.
When the firemen got to my house (truck and gear and all) they quickly opened the bedroom window with a crow bar and rescued David. They, and he, were loving it! He had on his fireman pajamas and all. They played with him and showed him the truck and he had the time of his life.
They were superfast too. 15 minutes from the time I called them, they were there and gone.
Meanwhile, poor Dan is peddling his bike the 30 minutes home as fast as he can to rescue us. Davie thought he was in heaven when Daddy came home too. All in all, a good day for David, not so much for mommy.
Next on the list...remove that lock. I am so grateful that he was fine and that the firemen (and poor Dan) were so kind and helpful. Plus, I get to add one more point to my tally for Mother of the Year. Yes, folks, my baby did indeed lock me out of the house.

Heather that story is classic!!! I love that he was enjoying every minute of it...so funny! Might I suggest getting one of those magnetized key holders that you can hide somewhere just in case Davie decides he wants the house to himself again!

Oh, Heather, can I say it? I can totally see your kid(s) doing that and then thinking the firemen and peekaboo was just a game! Ah, the innocence of childhood! And I think you can put more than one point towards your mother of the year award. I would have sat down and cried. :)

That's awesome! I love that he was wearing his jammies too! At least you weren't taking a shower and left with only a towel like someone we know...hee hee. That is such a great story!

Oh my HEAVENS HEATHER! I can't even believe that happened! What a little TURKEY!!! But at least he wasn't scared and crying that would make it worse! And that is soooo GREAT that the fireman were so good to Davie! And I laughed soooooo incredibly hard when I read about Dan pedling his bike home, I can only picture it! TOO FUNNY! And yes...you deserve another point towards mother of the year because I would have completly FREAKED out! So way to go Heather!

I hate to say this, but I too have been there done that...Locked outside by a two year in the dead of winter. It's a good story...now. By the way, I love Grace's room. It's so adorable. What a great job you did on it!

Robby's locked me out twice and Erica once. I'm so sorry. I know how helpless it feels. I think it's awesome that Davie got to see the firetruck in his firetruck PJs, though. :)

I'm so glad you made it through that one. We potentially have the same problem, so the lock is disabled and there's a slide lock installed high enough that kids can't lock it.

Heather- I love this story. Days like this really epitomize what being a mom consists of. I am glad things were alright! I am always afraid that somehow one day I will lock my kids in the car... Well, it happens!
