So yet another adventure at the Brady household. This morning, after I had taken Grace to school, I went into the basement to use the bathroom. Well, on our basement door there is a lock on the top and the bottom. Apparently, Davie locked the door while I was down there, effectively locking me into the basement. Crap. So, luckily we have bilco doors. I get outside and go around to both of our doors. Both are locked. Double crap. I am stuck with no keys and no phone and a baby alone in the house. I ran around to four neighbors houses before I found one at home. I called Dan and, of course, he is in surgery and so he can't answer. I left him a message and then tried to decide what to do. My neighbor told me to call 911. Feeling silly I went ahead and dialed. They told me to wait outside and they would send the firemen. I went back to the house and talked to Davie through the door. He thought we were playing an elaborate game of peek-a-boo, so he was loving it.
When the firemen got to my house (truck and gear and all) they quickly opened the bedroom window with a crow bar and rescued David. They, and he, were loving it! He had on his fireman pajamas and all. They played with him and showed him the truck and he had the time of his life.
They were superfast too. 15 minutes from the time I called them, they were there and gone.
Meanwhile, poor Dan is peddling his bike the 30 minutes home as fast as he can to rescue us. Davie thought he was in heaven when Daddy came home too. All in all, a good day for David, not so much for mommy.
Next on the list...remove that lock. I am so grateful that he was fine and that the firemen (and poor Dan) were so kind and helpful. Plus, I get to add one more point to my tally for Mother of the Year. Yes, folks, my baby did indeed lock me out of the house.
