My favorite thing in the whole world...

I'm not much of a morning person. I am infinitely more productive, alert, funny, and interesting (or so I like to think) late at night. Maybe I'm just a slow starter. It seems like once I've had a little bit of day behind me, things start working a bit better. Unfortunately my kids feel differently. I can't complain too much as they are not horribly early risers. They like to greet they day around 7:00 (anything earlier than that and they know they are in big trouble!) They have adjusted to the idea that I don't want to wake up when they do, as I did not go to bed at 7:30, but spent the later hours studying, cleaning, relaxing, or whatever else I wanted to get done in a gloriously quiet and peaceful house. Grace and David are actually pretty great about finding ways to entertain each other quietly while Char and I get a little more rest. They have even been known to get their own breakfast. The other night Grace went to bed a little later than usual and I informed her that we didn't have time to read in her book, but we could read a chapter in the morning. Sure enough, early the next morning Grace joined me in my warm, cozy bed, bright-eyed and ready to read. I did my best. I read half the chapter and then asked her if I could rest my eyes for a few minutes. She acquiesced graciously. About five minutes later she asked if we could finish the chapter. I tried again. I made it through a few pages but kept blurring words and dozing off. Finally Grace sweetly closed the book and kissed me on the forehead. She said, "It's ok mama, your tired." She then snuggled down in the blankets with me and cuddled up close. "Besides, snuggling with you is my favorite thing in the whole world." It made me feel as if I had at least done one thing right. If only all mornings could begin just like this....I might become a fan after all.

Well written, Heather. You should put this in her scrapbook/journal/collection-of-stories. It's a perfect snapshot in words.
